Course programme

As per the recommendation of the UGC Visiting Committee of IV-Plan, the Department of Foreign Languages was established in December 1976. The UGC sanctioned three Lecturer posts, one each for French, German and Russian. During 1977-1978 the Department started offering part-time P.G.Certificate Courses in French, German and Russian. Mr.Jose P. Thomas, Lecturer in French was nominated as Head of the Department. During 1978-1979 the Department started offering part-time P.G. Diploma Courses in French, German and Russian. In 1979 the French Courses were suspended as Mr.Jose P. Thomas went to France on study leave and did not return, the French Courses were suspended during 1979-1995. The P.G. Certificate Course in French was resumed in1995 by appointing a Guest Lecturer.


Dr.Annie Kurian, Lecturer in German who was appointed as Head of the Department in October 1979 continued to be the Head till April 1997. The P.G. Certificate Course in Japanese was started in 1996 by engaging a Guest Lecturer. In May 1997 Dr.K.Murugesan Reddiar, Professor of Russian was appointed as Head on retirement of Dr.Annie Kurian. He continued till 2001 April. In May 2001 Dr.Mariamma Vincent Panikulangara, Reader in Russian, was appointed as Head. In 2003, the department was renamed as Department of Culture And Heritage.
