AIM
The PG Diploma in Fashion Design is a twoyear, full-time course, designed to enable students to pursue a career in the highly competitive yet creative fashion Design Industry of India. It aims to prepare qualified
professionals with conceptual and technical expertise to co-ordinate various activities in the areas of design, product development, and management. The Graduates of this course can look forward to rewarding prospects within the Indian retail or export apparel industry.

SCENARIO AHEAD
The fashion sector of India is exceptionally vast, both in its inspirations and its productivity. The organized sector accounts for a mere 25 percent and the rest is serviced by the small and medium businesses. With
the advent of the Fashion weeks in India, buyers are looking towards new designers balancing international tastes and Indian sensibilities. A large proportion of the small to medium category is occupied by the Indian style segment. A one of a kind course offered by the academy spotlighting the crafts and arts of India, the PG Diploma focuses mainly in furthering the India design ethos into the world with a global appeal catering to both Indian retail market and export markets.

GETTING STARTED
The fashion focuses mainly on enhancing the creative abilities of a student by understanding and application of the design process from concepts to 3D translation. Traditional arts and crafts of India are made available in new exciting ways appealing to the new young India and also western tastes. The students will also gain sound technical knowledge and skill base to apply the principles of design effectively. This is supported by studies in pattern making, garment construction and draping fabrics merchandising and production methods.
A highly appreciated programme for Graduates, the PG Diploma in Fashion Design will provide a fast track into the Fashion Design Scene with a solid grounding in the knowledge of the garment industry Blended with conceptual development and craft awareness, the graduates will gain industry exposure and experiences through industry visits to support their career objectives. BUILDING-UP KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
A Semester 1 student grows to higher semesters after rigorous inputs which encompasses the foundation base of design. It includes study of Design Elements and principles, Color Study, Market survey for fashion trends and colors, Design development and layout technique. The programme is designed in a manner, as to give a structured approach in analyzing body forms to apply clothing suggestions for different client and figures types. Technical knowledge in basic draping, pattern making, and manufacture is provided.
Students gain an understanding of fabrics and their application through surface ornamentation, and embroidery both hand and computerized. All this is built gradually within the course against sound backdrop of industry visits and awareness in Indian Culture and crafts of various regions. On completion of this semester, student would develop skill in basic design, design layout, color study, basic patternmaking and draping as well as abilities to carry out basic research.
In Semester 2 students are encouraged to adopt thematic approach to design. Each module at this stage enables students to conceive creative and functional clothing. Special focus is given to retail and entrepreneurial development relevant to Indian market demands and emphasis is placed on commercial viability in design projects. To understand industry in its entirety, the areas of marketing and retail, production control and planning, basics in grading, intrinsic to success in the field, are emphasized. These aspects dictate the commercial viability of a business. Computer skills provide an added dimension to the students' learning
. During Semester 3 students are required to experiment innovatively with variety of textiles and obtain importance of technical innovations. Interweaving technical skills with the vast and rich pool of Indian clothing, they produce craft base design collection working in close association with artisans. Students develop entrepreneurial skills. They get to integrate their subject knowledge with commercial practices and market requirements. The whole process is classified and visually presented in the form of Portfolio, which becomes the basis for job opportunities in the industry.
