Important information for seeking admission into M.S. Ophthalmology course:

A candidate seeking admission to this course:

a) Should have qualified for the MBBS degree from any university recognized by the Medical Council of India and should have satisfactorily completed the Rotating Compulsory Internship of one year before the starting of the courses, and registered with the Indian Medical Council, and thereafter preferably served in India for a period of at least TWO YEARS in medically underserved areas, recognized as such by this institution.

b) Can apply for any two Postgraduate degree courses and two Postgraduate diploma courses in the same specialties.

Note:

a) Special consideration will be given to alumni of St. John's Medical College who have served in medically underserved areas and underprivileged people, recognized as such by the college.

b) A candidate who is holding a Postgraduate diploma in a particular specialty will apply for the Postgraduate degree course only in the same specialty and not for any other.

Non-eligibility:

a) Candidates who have taken more than TWO YEARS beyond the minimum period required, to pass the MBBS course are ordinarily not eligible to apply for the Postgraduate degree course.

b) Candidates, who have not passed the MBBS degree examination conducted by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences(RGUHS) / Bangalore / Mysore / Mangalore / Karnataka / Gulbarga University or an equivalent examination declared as such by the State Government/University in the State, shall not be eligible for admission.

c) Candidates, who are above 45 years of age as on the last date prescribed for the admission, shall not be eligible for admission to any Postgraduate degree course. However, in respect of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka, the age limit of 45 years is relaxable by three years.

d) A candidate who is already holding a Postgraduate degree in a particular specialty shall not be eligible to apply for another specialty.

e) A candidate, who is studying for any Postgraduate diploma/degree course, but has not completed the said course by passing the prescribed examination on or before the last date of submitting the application, shall not be eligible for selecton for any higher diploma/degree course.
