Course Introduction
With the immense growth in the media sector, we have a scenario today where many hundreds of satellite television channels vie for the pie in the sky, numerous FM radio stations have mushroomed, and a multitude of print media publications compete for the reader's attention. This situation has let to an explosion growth in demand for well-rounded media professionals, equally at home in a print, radio, or a television milieu. This course attempts to give the students a deep insigth into the way media houses work and the work flow's in the print and electronic media services; and provide the tools to students for developing skill-sets optimally tuned for assuming different responsibilities in these media houses.
The course covers development of creative writing and reporting skills, copy editing and the editorial function, photography and photojournalism, newspaper and magazine layout design, spot reporting for radio and television, basics of radio and TV journalism, through hands-on experience coupled with theoretical segments. By the end of the course the student is expected to be well-versed in one or the other of the key roles in print, radio, television or new media journalism, chosen as per indivisual's inclination, personal bent of mind and creative orientation.
