Course programme

The Production specialisation in the Bachelor of Fine Arts trains you to design, create, operate and manage in your chosen area of production.

This vocationally oriented degree teaches all aspects of production including set, costume, lighting, audio and vision technology and design, workshop and costume construction and stage management.

You will apply knowledge gained in studio classes to practical projects generated both within and beyond the VCA. Given the broad span of work within the VCA, you will have the opportunity to work in a range of capacities for our productions, including dance, theatre and music theatre as well as one-off events.

Within the Production specialisation you can choose to major in one of three areas:

Performance Technology
This major consists of modules such as Lighting, Audio and Vision Systems and Electrics and Software in Theatre. It involves an introduction to the equipment and the teaching of its practical usage and design capacity. S

Stage Management
In this major, you will gain skills in stage and production management, and be introduced to performance technology and prop-making.

Design Realisation
This major trains you in costume, props and visual communication. You will learn the skills required to create and realise a design.

Selection into this specialisation is talent-based and includes written support material, an interview and workshop.
