Professional Course in Dravyagunavijnanam

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College was founded by the late Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandan Mooss on 2nd October 1976 and is under the management of Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society, registered under the Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII/1955. The College is affiliated to the Calicut University and offers B.A.M.S. degree (Ayurveda acharya). The course is recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) and is of a duration of 5½ years. The sprawling campus accommodates administrative and academic blocks, hospitals, auditorium, herbal garden, hostels for men and women and facilities for sports and games.

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College is an outstanding institution in terms of academic excellence and achievements. The various departments and affiliated facilities, besides providing ample academic inputs, also contribute towards research that is on par with international standards.

This department, comparable to pharmacological sciences of modern medicine deals with the teaching of pharmacology in Ayurveda like drug identification, standardization, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacotherapeutics. The Department maintains an excellent, well-kept herbal garden with more than 1000 plants of about 200 different species among some of which fall in red-listed/endangered categories. A histology laboratory for pharmacognostical studies is another asset of this department. The department also boasts of an excellent museum for showing therapeutically important and endangered plant species of various morphological characteristics.
