Biological data in the form of sequences, structures, expression profiles are being generated at a rapid rate. Newer tools for storage and analysis of these data are being developed. Analysis of such data provides us with an increased understanding of cellular processes and living organisms in general. There are requirements at two major fronts - analysis of biological data and software development for analysis. This course provides an introduction to both these areas and as to how computers can be used to interpret biological information from varied sources.

Course Structure

Module 1 - Basics: Biosciences and Computing along with an introduction to PERL programming.
Module 2 - Data Collection: Techniques involved in biological data collection and storage in databases.
Module 3 - Data Analysis: Analyzing biological data .This includes nucleotide/protein sequences, protein structures etc.
Module 4 - Large Scale analysis and Applications: The applications of Bioinformatics and its employment in large scale data analysis
