The just commenced special education cell at the Institute uses a psychological-sociological educational approach to training school drop-outs and candidates (with or without HI) who are unable to cope with their curriculum. The cell has a current intake of 10 students per year (only boys). These boys will be taught academics systematically on a one-to-one basis. Alternatively, students who cannot complete school will be taught functional reading and writing skills. The course provides training for students to become special teachers/educators of hearing impaired/deaf children, at integrated or special schools. This course is recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India [RCI] and is conducted in technical collaboration with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai.
