Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE) is a unit of Sri Venkateswara Educational and Health Trust (SVEHT). The Trust was founded on August 1, 1984 at the behest and with the blessings of His Holiness Pujyashri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetadhipathi Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. In November 1984 the then State Government granted permission to conduct courses in Engineering leading to Bachelors Degree in Engineering in the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communicaiton Engineering and Civil Engineering, awarded by University of Madras.
. The inaugural function of the college complex at Nazarathpet took place on April 8, 1985 in the presence of and with the benign blessings of His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. His Excellency Sri S L Khurana, the then Governer of Tamil Nadu inaugurated. Sri C Aranganayagam, the then Minister of Education, presided and Sri K Rajaram, the then Minister of Industries, declared open the laboratories and workshops.
