Course programme

STEP is the international Student Exchange Program of IIM Calcutta.

The objective of the Exchange Program is to provide students with increased exposure to cultures and business practices other than their own. Keeping in mind today's dynamic global business environment, IIMC has placed a strong emphasis on international student exchange programs as a means to equip students with cross-cultural exposure and train them in global business ethics to complement their knowledge of the Indian business scenario

STEP, which continues the institute tradition of international symbiosis, was formally launched in 1999 . It encompasses PGP students ( that is, those who are following the post- graduate program in management), as well as doctoral students of IIMC. Under STEP, the students of IIM Calcutta get an opportunity to spend one term in major business schools around the world. The exchange program also enables overseas students from prestigious partner business schools to experience share ideas, insights and experiences with the IIMC community and gain a feel of Indian business as the country's star rises rapidly on the world stage.

The curriculum requirements are assessed in terms of course credits. Each course is assigned 3 IIMC credits with a minimum of 33 contact hours spread over a quarter. 0.75 IIMC credits is equivalent to 1 credit under the European Credit Transfer Scheme System (ECTS). Using this as an intermediate, students from non - European business schools can convert to the number of credits on their parent school scale. Based on how many credits an exchange student would need to fulfill in his/her term laid down by his / her institute, an adequate number of courses can be taken at IIMC (subject, of course to the institute timetable). In case the exchange institute also lays down mandatory areas in which courses must be taken, IIMC offers sufficient number of courses in a wide range of specializations to fulfill that requirement in each term. IIMC course electives are available in diverse management sub-disciplines Human Resources being one of them.
