The College was inaugurated by Dr. Bezawada Gopal Reddy, the then Minister of Finance of Composite Madras State. It offered Intermediate course to begin with. It was upgraded in 1953 as Degree College and B.A. and B.Com. Courses were introduced. In 1958 B.Sc. course was introduced in all disciplines including Geology. Then, the College was renamed as Vutukuri Ramayya Sreshti and Yarlagadda Ranganayakulu Naidu College.
The period of Dr. Solasa Satyanarayana as President, Sri Jagarlamudi Sivaram Prasad as Secretary and Correspondent and Sri Polavarapu Jagadeswara Rao as Principal was said to be a golden era in the annals of the College. During their tenure, the College was strengthened in every sphere in form of developing Infrastructure and introducing various innovative courses. During this period, the strength of the faculty and students has increased substantially.
