Background
Life Insurance depends essentially on a firm foundation of Actuarial Science. The basic business of a Life Insurance Company is to analyse and assess the risk of human life value, classification of life risks, develop life insurance products suitably for various risks as well as for various needs, quote price for undertaking the risks, market the products, select lives to suit the estimations made while designing the products, service the policy contracts, invest the money collected by way of premium, suitably, to fulfill the promise to the consumer and to sustain in the business and to make profits. All these core activities need a firm scientific analysis. Actuarial Science caters to the majority of issues enumerated above. Thus Actuarial Science forms the core of Life Insurance Business. Executives working for the Life Insurance Companies in various capacities and at various stages in the organizational hierarchy are to be aware of the principles of Actuarial Science and understand the practices thereof in order to be able to contribute to the life business meaningfully.
