Course programme

With the emergence of Rural Development as a distinct profession in recent years, Scientific and integrated knowledge for understanding of rural situations and its environment is an emergent need for the development of our nation. The backwardness of rural sector is observed to be a major impediment in the over-all development of our country. As such, this demands right kind of co-ordination among the rural development organization to train the manpower resources for extending help to the rural sector. With this view, the department of Rural Development & Planning started its academic programmes by admitting 5(five) students initially at post graduate level in 1989 for the first time. However, after producing the first batch of students in 1991 under NEHUm the Post Graduate Programme was discontinued due to shortage of manpower I the department. The first batch of students, however, completed their degree in time with the helping hand from other interrelated departments offering minor courses. Gradually with the appointment of some more faculty members in 1997,1998 and 2000 the Department is running its Post-Graduate Programme successfully.

Activities Performed:

The course is actively engaged in investigating the present state of rural conditions in nearby villages by conducting frequent surveys and farm and home visits. For this purpose, on every Saturday PG students of this Department along with the faculty members interact with the nearby villages. Some villages in Medziphema block are in the process of inclusion under the village adoption programme of the Department.
