About this course

Pass in 10+2 / Higher Secondary (HS) / Pre University (PUC) or its equivalent with English as one of the languages. Shall have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following : Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics and Information Science.The Institute admits students as per the prevailing rules and regulations of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagaum, Karnataka.

Biotechnology has come a long way from fundamental aspects of biology and genetic engineering to give rise to more sophisticated technologies involving Bioinformatics, Bio sensors, equipment design and drawing. The biotechnology programme make the students not only well versed in basic knowledge but also specializes them in applied aspects of biotechnology.

Career Scope
Biotechnology reveals that Indian Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) will grow leaps and bounds by 2010. The growth of services sector will be over 8% and its contribution to India’s GDP will be over 51%. According to Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), “India in the new knowledge economy” and the areas with significant potential include pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, legal support, intellectual property research and design.

India stands to gain from the inherent strengths in the biotechnology sector, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. The Indian Biotechnology sector is on the upswing and is expected to earn around annual revenue of Rs.22,000 Crores by 2010 and this may give an added advantage to the placement sector of Biotechnology.
