Course programme
Drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional DSA driving test in order to tow large trailers and gain licence entitlement Category B+E. A Category B vehicle is under 3.5 tonnes MAM with up to 8 passenger seats. Most cars, 4x4s, people carriers and vans fall into Category B. If you wish to tow large trailers such as caravans, horse trailers, boats or plant with a Category B Vehicle you will probably require Category B+E on your licence.
Check whether you require Category B+E entitlement with our easy to use guide
The DSA B+E Driving Test is 1.5 hrs duration and is taken at a local DSA Test Centre. A high standard of driving is expected and is higher than what you experienced on your car test. During the test you will be assessed on your ability to complete a set reversing exercise competently, be able to hitch & unhitch the trailer safely with the minimum of manual handling, and be assessed whilst driving on the road in a variety of road situations. You will also be asked 5 safety questions relating to safe loading and towing of trailers.
Our 2009 Ifor Williams Twin Axle Box Trailer & 2009 Ford Ranger Pick Up meet the DSA test specification for Driving Tests, and have been chosen as they are user friendly, being easy to drive and reverse.
Our 2 Day Category B+E Course for students with some understanding of trailers costs: £515.00
Our 3 Day Category B+E Course for students with no experience of trailers costs:
£715
Remember our costs are all inclusive, 1 to 1 full days training and include use of our vehicle & trailer, vat & DSA test fee (Currently £115)
