Course programme

The main subject in English is Literature and the following concurrent courses are available :

(a) The English Interdisciplinary Course : "The Individual and Society", in lieu of a Credit Course in English Language.

(b) One Qualifying Language Course : Hindi or Sanskrit, or for students who have not studied these languages after class VIII, an interdisciplinary course other than English interdiscilinary course "The Individual and Society" [See (c) below for list]

(c) One Interdisciplinary Course: Since students have already opted for the course on "The Individual and Society" in lieu of a language course, any of the following interdisciplinary courses :-

1. Ethics in the Public Domain
2. Environmental Issues in India
3. Reading Gandhi
4. Gender and Society
5. Mathematical Awareness.

Admission to the B.A. (Honours) English course will be done through a Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE) which will be held under the aegis of the Department of English, Delhi Universty. The test will evaluate candidates' aptitude for the B.A. (Hons.) English course.

The criteria of eligibility for appearing for the CATE will be (i) a minimum score of 60% in English-Core or functional, and (ii) 60% aggregate in the best four subjects of the class XIIth examinations.

Application forms for the CATE will be made available at the office of the, Department of English, Arts Faculty Building, University of Delhi (North Campus) from June 1st to June 15th 2009. Each candidate for the test will be required to submit at the same office, along with the completed application form, 2 passport size photographs, a copy of his/her class XII marksheet and a sum of Rs. 100/- only (in cash) towards test fee. Candidates from the reserved categories i.e. SC/ST/PH will be admitted as per university allotment without taking the test. OBC candidates will get due concession in marks.
