Production Engineering is a specialized area of Mechanical Engineering with an objective of enabling engineers to improve efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing and service sector Industries. The curriculum of the course constitutes all basic mechanical engineering subjects like engineering mechanics, strength of materials, machine design, thermodynamics, heat transfer etc. and specialized courses like production engineering, tool design, operations management, project management and Industrial engineering. The course curriculum is designed compatible to the existing and emerging needs of the industry. The course has state-of-the-art facilities in form of laboratories and experienced faculty for impart training to the students. The objective of the undergraduate program is to prepare world class and competent quality professionals with value based technical knowledge, for taking leading positions in manufacturing units, power sector, automotive sector etc.

Production engineering is a combination of manufacturing technology with management science. A production engineer typically has a wide knowledge of engineering practices and is aware of the management challenges related to production. The goal is to accomplish the production process in the smoothest, most-judicious and most-economic way.

Production engineering encompasses the application of castings,machining processing, joining processes, metal cutting & tool design, metrology, machine tools, machining systems, automation, jigs and fixtures, die and mould design, material science, design of automobile parts, and machine designing and manufacturing. Production engineering also overlaps substantially with manufacturing engineering and industrial engineering.
