B. Tech. Programme: Oils, Fats & Waxes Technology

The four-year engineering degree course is conducted with two semesters every year.

DIVISION OF OIL TECHNOLOGY:

UDCT runs B Tech course in Oil Tech. with focus on edible oils, oleo chemicals, surfactants, perfumes, waxes and cosmetics. The division has pilot plant facilities for high pressure pressing of oil seeds (decorticator, cooker, expeller), refining of edible oils (alkali refining, vacuum beaching, dewaxing, steam deodorizer), hydrogenations (high pressure autoclave), soap, detergent (ribbon blender) manufacture and fatty acid distillation. Characterization Instruments include Lovibond Tintometer, Flash, and smoke point apparatus, penetrometer, pour point apparatus, tensiometer, double door refrigerator, Incubator Shaker, Nephlo Turbidity Meter, Low Temperature Centrifuge etc.

THRUST AREAS: Non traditional oils, biodiesel, lipase catalysed synthesis of oleochemicals, novel surfactants, compact detergents etc.
