The department was established in the year 2000 with the inception of the institution. It started with an initial intake of 60. The department has grown in strength over the years in terms of Infrastructure facilities, Technical expertise, Faculty Strength, Modern Teaching Aids, Browsing facilities etc. The department has currently an intake of 120 students.
The department is headed by Prof. M. Basavaraju who has more than 20 years of experience in industry and education institution.
The department is accredited by the National Board of accreditation, New Delhi.
Guest lectures are held for the benefit of the students, and the department has a good track record in conducting Faculty development programs.
A 5 day workshop on Cluster Computing was conducted Aug, 2007 as part of faculty development program which had distinguished speakers from industry and academia. The main objective of this workshop was to instill a broad understanding of High Performance computing (HPC) in the participants and prepare them to further explore cluster and grid computing in greater detail.
The workshop on compiler design was a six-day event held as part of Faculty Development Program in Aug, 2004. The program provided necessary inputs to faculty to enable them to improve the teaching of compiler design to under graduate students. The lectures were given by renowned subject experts in advanced topics like “code optimization”, “Java virtual machine”, “code generation” and “just in time compilations “
