Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry came into existence with the establishment of the institution in the year 1997. The department is presently headed by Dr. S.Z. Mohamed Shamshuddin, M.Sc., Ph.D, PDF (IISc), MISTE. who is duly supported by well qualified and experienced staff members. The department offers courses in chemistry to the students of all engineering disciplines at their I/II semester level.

A Research Center will soon be started in the department and a proposal for recognition of the Research Center has been sent to VTU. Research proposals for funding purpose also have been sent to DST and VTU for the development of the research center. The proposed research center will offer Ph.D program in chemistry (Catalysis, Organic Synthesis) of VTU.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

* To stimulate curiosity among the students and make them to understand the importance of Science and Technology; which are the two faces of a coin.
* To provide the knowledge and understanding of latest developments in Science so that the students can explore it for the development of Technology.
* To stimulate "Research Attitude" among the students and the staff so that they could be innovators and inventers of tomorrow.
* To develop research collaborations with leading institutions/ laboratories and work together towards betterment of the society.
* To assist HMSIT in its overall development to scale new heights in the technical field by becoming a premier technological institute in the country through excellence in teaching, guiding and counseling the students.

SHORT RANGE GOALS OF THE DEPARTMENT

* To provide the knowledge of applied chemistry to the students and exposure to laboratory work using analytic instruments.
* To provide opportunities to the students and the staff to expose their talents in technical exhibitions, seminars, workshops and conferences.
* To inculcate moral values among the students through self discipline.
* To create awareness regarding physical and mental fitness among students and staff.
* To achieve over all development of the students by paying individual attention through interaction and counseling.
* To encourage the faculty to acquire Ph.D degree and to motivate them to take research as an integral part of their professional duties.

Physics

Physics is a part of Bachelor of Engineering curriculum. Department of Physics started as a basic Science Department in HMS Institute of Technology in the Academic year 1997-98 with intake of 180 students. However the growth of department is rapid and reached the strength of 420 students. This growth is as a result of recognition to the Institution among the Public in Nation-wide.

OBJECTIVES OF DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The students are able,

* To identify the concepts and philosophy of physics from their respective Engineering field.
* To use the concepts and ideas of physics in developing technology.
* To develop innovative way of thinking in the field of engineering physics.
* To prepare the qualities expected by the modern and dynamic society related to Engineering physics.
* To develop self confident and self motivation through learning Physics.
* To develop 3R's in the field of Engineering Physics.
* To develop reasoning capacity and conscious feeling in answering Physics related to Engineering.
* To achieve self sustainable in terms of food, cloth and shelter through learning applications of Physics.
* To develop human potential with high ethical standards.
* To streamline the young and energetic human potential in the right path to achieve Vision-2020

SHORT RANGE GOALS OF DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The students are able

* To provide chances to expose their talents by conducting and allow to participate in seminars , exhibitions and other co-curricular activities.
* To develop the sense of understanding related to Engineering Physics by way of providing study material and e-Self Learning Material in addition with class room instruction.
* To develop the knowledge of analysis and synthesis related to Engineering Physics.
* To develop the feeling of healthy competitive in university exams.
* To safe from frustration on subject due to work accumulation at the end time by way of providing class room planning with equal distribution of work load.
* To achieve over all development of the students, individual attention is provided through motivation and counseling.
* To develop the skills in practical through individual attention .
* To inculcate moral values through self discipline.

PROGRAMME OF MATHEMATICS

Mathematics as a basic science of Engineering course, the students of all the branches of Engineering have to study the Mathematics subject for four semester during the two year of the four year Engineering programme.
