BDS:Oral Pathology
The speciality of Oral Pathology represents a confluence of basic sciences and clinical dentistry. The department was established in 2001 and deals with dental anatomy, oral histology, embryology, pathology and oral microbiology. Clinical dentistry is largely based on the foundation of study of dental anatomy and histology. Oral pathology helps the dentist to understand oral disease by correlating human biology with signs and symptoms of the disease; thereby helping in proper diagnosis and adequate treatment. Students appear for two separate university examinations during the undergraduate course of BDS in their I year and III year; for Dental anatomy & oral histology and oral pathology respectively. They are trained for the same through didactic lectures, practical demonstrations and hands on sessions. The post graduate course in the subject started in 2007 and we have an intake of two post graduate students per year. The 3year MDS course in the subject prepares the student to attain higher competence in dealing with oral diseases, their course and effects. They perform routine histopathological evaluations of specimens and also carry out routine diagnostic procedures. PG students are also involved in research projects during their 3 year curriculum. They also submit a thesis dissertation work to the University of Agra for the Master's degree. They also attend and participate in national and international conferences and CDE programmes.
