Unit 1: Biostatistics 8 Credits (240 hrs.)

Introduction to Biostatistics
Sampling – Random and non-random sampling methods – Description, merits and demerits
Data summarisation – measures of averages and dispersion
Data Presentation techniques – Graphical and tabular
Normal distribution – properties and applications
Standard error, Confidence interval and sampling distribution – definition, computation, interpretation and applications
Basic principles of testing of hypothesis
Test of significance - t-test, one way Anova, Repeated measures ANOVA, Chi square and Non parametric methods
Sample size in health science research – Basic principles and computations.
Correlation and Regression
Software packages-SPSS.
Introduction to systematic reviews and meta analysis
Measures of agreement (Kappa Statistic & ICC)
Introduction to logistic regression
Introduction to survival analysis

Unit 2. Epidemiology and experimental design 3 Credits (90 hrs.)

Epidemiological Study design- Descriptive, Analytical and Experimental
Basic experimental designs – CRD, RBD, Repeated measures factorial, cross over
Epidemiological Measures – Rate, ratio, proportion, Incidence and prevalence , Relative risk, Risk ratio, Odds ratio
Reliability and validity of screening and diagnostic tests, ROC analysis

Proposal writing
