SSC stands for Staff Selection Commission and the job of the commission is to make recruitment to non-technical group 'C' and group 'B' non gazetted posts in Ministries/ Departments of the Government of India, the C.A.G and many more government institutions. COMBINED GRADUATE LEVEL

This exam is seperated into two modules i. e CGL (P) and CGL (M).The minimum educational requirement necessary for applying to the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Preliminary Examination is a Bachelor's Degree or equal of any recognized Indian academia. The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Preliminary Examination is separated into two stages, each shipping maximum marks of 100 in addition to having period of 2 hours. The First Section tests the General cleverness & General consciousness of the candidates while the Second Section is on mathematics. Each part contains a total of 100 questions of objective type, multiple-choice pattern. Questions of the exam are set bilingual manner.

The age limit of candidates applying for the various posts is listed below:

1) For Assistant Grade & Sub Inspectors in Central Bureau of Investigation- 20 and 27 years.
2) For Inspectors of Central Excise / Income Tax & Divisional Accountants/Auditors/ Upper Division Clerks -18 and 27 years.
3) For Sub Inspectors in Central Police Forces- 20 and 25 years.


Stenographer's Grade C Examination

This is a non-gazzetted post. To suffice to the requirements of the criteria laid down by Staff Selection Commission candidate age must be between 18 to 25 years in additon to on their academic qualification front they should have atleast cleared their matric level exam. There are age relaxations as well as other concessions granted to people from minority background. This is a separate Examination for Stenographers with emphasis on stenography skills. The written examination will be utilized for short listing candidates for the second tier and for final ranking by the side of marks in Skill Test in Tier-II. Candidate applying for both the posts will require presenting only a solitary application with solitary examination fee. Entire employment phase is planned to be finished in 9-12 months from the date of the advertisement by Staff Selection Commission. it should be noted that as per latest revised government directives the decisive date for the age limit restriction has now been linked to closing date of applications. It is in benfit of candidates that papers related to Class X marksheet or any type of certificate equivalent to it would be soley accepted as the proof and documentary evidence of age. Like said before this government directive has no bearning on the age relaxations given to schedule castes, schedule tribes, other belonging castes and so forth.


The exams for the same are conducted in the month of March as the advertisements of the exam detailing time, date and so forth is published in the newspaper two to three months before. The SSC Stenographer's Grade C Examination is made up of a Written Test in addition to a Shorthand Test. The written objective type test of 2 hours period is taken on the following subjects:

1) General English in addition to General information: 200 marks
2) Essay: 100 marks

Only those who meet the criteria for the written test have to emerge for the shorthand test.

The Stenographers Examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for employment of:
(i) Central Secretariat Stenographers Service- Grade C (for addition in the choose list of the Grade);
(ii) Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers' Service Grade C (for insertion in the select list of the Grade)
(iii) Indian Foreign Service (B) - Grade II of the Stenographers Cadre
(iv) Armed Forces headquarters Stenographers' Service -Grade C
(v) Posts of Stenographers in additional departments/organizations attached offices of the Govt. of India not contributing in above services.

Points associated with Nationality (Citizenship)

Candidates applying for the different exams conducted by SSC should be sure on their nationality as well as other territorial issues.


A candidate must be either:

1)Citizen of India, or
2)Subject of Nepal, or
3)Subject of Bhutan, or
4)Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January,1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
5)Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, SriLanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar),Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India
