Course in Film and Video Editing

Any kind of Film and Video Editing, the work of an editor requires very good technical skills. It is the editor who puts the film in the correct sequential order. They view the processed film and video with the production personnel to analyze, evaluate, and select scenes and to determine which scenes need to be improved or re-shot. They synchronize the sound track and add special effects wherever required.

Good Film and Video Editing does not just involve using the editing software efficiently but also editing knowledge from an artistic point of view. In theory classes, students will explore picture editing and sound editing conventions and techniques. During the Film and Video Editing Course instructor will use short movie scenes and/or feature films to facilitate discussion. Students will analyze aspects such as mood, rhythm, pace, continuity, and structure.

From day one, students learn the fundamentals of digital, non-linear video editing. In Film and Video Editing workshops, students will explore the intricacies of the various editing software currently available in the market such as Final Cut Pro,and Avid. They will learn to log and capture images by using image editing tools and software such as Fire and Inferno.

After the initial phase of Film and Video Editing training, each student works on a scene from a full-length narrative or documentary. The faculty is always available for advice on technical and artistic queries. Each student receives feedback from the experts and there are regular screenings from the editing point of view and lectures by guest speakers.

Our Film and Video Editing workshops are conducted by top practicing editors from the Mumbai film industry with an FTII background. The rushes of these exercises will be based on various film sequences taken from well-known films edited by our Guest faculty so that they can discuss the challenges faced during the time of editing.
