This one year course in Foundation Art is recognised by the Directorate of Art, Govt. of Maharashtra. The Department of Art & Design at the Sophia Polytechnic was established over two decades ago and enjoys high credibility within the industry. It is the only prestigious course in Foundation Art in the city, which is only for girls. Highly skilled and experienced educators form the core of the permanent faculty. Some of the most luminous names within the industry are part of the visiting faculty. There is a dedicated Workshop for students to explore different facets of printmaking with various media. An extensive and well-equipped air-conditioned library with scanner and computerized information access system encourages students to do reference work. All classrooms are well ventilated and equipped with O.H.P. and LCD projection facilities. Students are provided with an Illustration Room with all facilities for practicing drawing skills. A state-of-the-art audio visual hall is available to students for presentations. Excellent hostel facilities are available for outstation students.

Subsidiary Subjects Print Making Calligraphy Drawing Perspective Sketching Memory Drawing History of Art in India - Theory Eligibility S.S.C. Intermediate Drawing Grade Certificate from Maharashtra Regular workshops are conducted by artists and eminent people related to the world of art & design, to explore different facets of colours and 2D / 3D design. This helps to open up new horizons for the students at an interactive level. Annual study tours are organized to different places in and around India, where students do sketches and paint landscapes. This gives them a greater appreciation of the history, art and culture of our country. The students' efforts are put on display at the Annual Exhibition of the Sophia Polytechnic which is held at the end of February each year. The exhibition is well attended by professionals from the field of advertising & design and is a great showcase of the students work through the year. Students are encouraged and assisted in participating in competitions at a City and State level to raise their standards of excellence. Through the year value education classes in ethics are conducted for all students who are also encouraged to participate in annual essay and book review competitions.
