The Course Outline:

Module I :
CLS-01. The Basis of Leadership: Self-Management
A good leader is one who knows himself/herself sufficiently and is able to manage himself/herself effectively. This unit highlights the importance of self-knowledge and self-management as one of the most important aspects of effective leadership. It brings out the fact that it is by knowing oneself – strengths, weaknesses, temperament, tendencies, emotional ups and downs, etc., -- that one can form and shape oneself as an effective leader. This unit also enables the participants to build up an adequate amount of inner strength and acquire sufficient external skills and techniques that are basic to good leadership. Further, this unit also highlights the need for the right type of inner disposition towards oneself and the need to be a model to others.

CLS-02. Essential Leadership Qualities
A good leader needs to have a clear understanding of the role and function of a leader and should also understand clearly the principles that guide any leadership role. Further, a leader needs to build up certain habits and characters and should also have a deep perception of matters related to relationship with the colleagues, team mates, subordinates and higher authorities. This unit addresses these issues and highlights the various elements and principles related to leadership – concept of leadership, principle-centred leadership, leadership habits, characteristics of a leader, etc.

CLS-03. Leadership and Change
In today’s world, change is obvious and unavoidable and the leader needs to be the agent of change and the manager of change and, moreover, he/she should have complete control over the fast changing situation. The objective of this unit is to help the participants to understand the importance of change and to help them to leverage returns with the changing times. This unit also helps the participants to understand various change-resisting syndromes and the ways and means to overcome these. Further, this unit introduces the participants to a new way of administration and leadership -- EGovernance and matters related to its technology, policy and management.

CLS-04. Leadership Communication
Effective communication is the hallmark of good leadership and an effective communicator is likely to be a successful leader . This unit helps the participants to understand the different aspects of effective communication. It also familiarizes the participants with different elements and techniques of communications. Further, this unit provides a reasonable amount of input on the use of the latest information systems and electronic communication techniques – the application of computers in the area of presentations, internet, email, etc. Further, it will highlight the means and methods of giving due publicity to our mission and work by using the media and communication techniques.

CLS-05. Organizational Behaviour and Administration
A leader has to lead one or more organizations or one or more sub-units of an organization – small or big, formal or informal, structured or unstructured -- and he/she has to understand correctly and deeply the dynamics of the organizational set up under his/her care and have a good grasp of the administrative and legal requirements and implications, in order to take the organization forward. This unit enlightens the participants on the types of organizations and the diversity of people in an organization with their impact on organizational effectiveness. This unit helps the participants in understanding the implications of different personalities and cultures in an organization and the ways and means to manage them. This unit also covers various administrative and legal aspects of running an organization.

Module II
CLS-06. Research and Evaluation Methods
For effective leadership, research and evaluation is absolutely essential. A Leader needs to be familiar with the methods of research and evaluation and he/she should constantly apply these methods to assess the way each programme, project or the administration in general is being carried out. This unit equips the participants with the different methods and tools to make an assessment of a programme or a project or the functioning of an organization or its leadership and administrative pattern. It provides the basic tools of research and evaluation methods through theoretical inputs and practical exercises, demonstrations and examples.

CLS-07. Principles and Practices of Management
Leadership is the process of planning, organizing, leading and controlling the work of all the members in an organization and of using all the resources available in the organization to reach specific organizational goals. This unit teaches the participants how organizations are led and managed and how a leader can best help his/her organization to set and achieve its goals and move forward.

CLS-08. Project Management
Planning, preparing, implementing and monitoring projects and programmes are essential for successful leadership. This unit provides the theoretical and practical aspects of project management where the participants can develop an understanding about the need and importance of a project and its scope. Apart from this, it teaches the techniques to identify the resources for a project, to set goals and objectives and to plan and formulate project proposals. It also teaches the techniques of implementation and monitoring of projects and the tools and techniques for project evaluation and impact analysis through cost and benefits.

CLS-09. Human Resource Management
A leader has to give special importance to the development of Human Resource (HR), in order to ensure that the organization has an adequate number of capable and qualified persons and that these persons update their capability and knowledge on a continuous basis. This unit enlightens the participants on the importance of Human Resources in an organization and about the ways to manage them well. It gives technical inputs on various aspects of HR Management. It also enlightens the participants on various legal provisions related to HR.

CLS-10. Financial Management
Every successful leader should have adequate capability for financial administration and management. Without a reasonable amount of knowledge on financial administration, a leader will find it extremely difficult to give effective leadership and guidance. This unit equips the participants with the knowledge of accounting principles, conventions and concepts underlying financial reporting and financial analysis. It also provides an insight into accounting concepts and techniques, which will help in managerial decisions and control. Further, this unit develops a conceptual framework of the financial functioning, tools, techniques and processes of financial management and control.
