Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh occupies a unique position in the history of North-East India. It was formerly known as Berry White Medical School, named after the great visionary of modern medical education in Assam. Being the oldest hospital of the North-East region it caters to the need of about lakhs of patient per annum.
The Deptt of Pharmacology of AMC started functioning in 1948.Dr.P.N.Taneja, Prof of Medicine was the Professor-in-Charge pf the Deptt and Dr.M.N.Bahttacharyya was the Asstt Prof the Deptt.The present Building of the Deptt was constructed in the year 1951.The first batch of students appeared in Pharmacology in May 1955 and Dr.R.Goswami took over.The P.G tranning and research in the deptt of pharmacology commenced in 1965.
