Description
DLI had already established leading Genetic & Molecular Laboratory, which made the creation of a bioinformatics center a natural progression. DLI began making plans to secure funding in 2006.
The GGC approved 24 Lacks Rs from the state to help fund the development of the DLI Bioinformatics Institute at Hyderabad. This was the only funding given to the Institute before its opening.
DLI opened its doors in July 2007 in the Corporate Research Center with only five employees.
Growth and expansion
By 2009, DLI had reached a point in its development where it was ready to occupy new premises in Hyderabad. The first phase of the move to the new facility began in December 2009 when approximately 40 of the Institute’s employees were relocated from Research Building XV at the Corporate Research Center to a new building on Windsor Plaza.
In 2009, comes a further commitment to growth in new strategic directions (human disease, -omics), to collaboration between DLI and the GGC and surrounding communities and bioinformatics/computational biology/biomedical challenges that demand next-generation High Performance Computing environments.
