Operation Theatre Technology:

As the name suggests, extensive support is required to be rendered in operation theatre working, through ready availability of all tools, instruments; life support systems and the like in working & useable state (sterilized, filled, checked) and including maintaining the records pre & post operation when the patient is under intensive care or in critical condition. For an efficient surgeon to perform well such system support is absolutely essential. Usually Diploma level courses are available (DOTT).

Nursing:

Truly is another name for patient care. It is not only the diagnosis and prescription/operation that is critical for recovery but proper care and drug & prescription administration is just as essential & vital for health care. Such care is provided by trained nurses who keep track of patients condition, food, medicine & prescribed follow ups and other patient care activities including injections, temperature, blood pressure measurement, monitoring etc. Timely administration of drugs as per recommended schedule is of vital importance.

Dietician & Nutritionists/Wellness Experts:

They advice the clients about the food & nutritional aspects and the good & bad effects of various food items & food habits as well as life style practices & their effect, & other wellness & exercise schedules for keeping fit. The food we take greatly influences our body system both physical & mental and many diseases can be prevented and regulated through diet & life style regulation i.e., following correct & proper food & lifestyle practices. Some common diseases that can be regulated are blood pressure, diabetes mellitus (blood sugar), stomach ache, ulcers, acidity, constipation, obesity and the like.

Job & Career Prospects:

Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, rehabilitation centers, sports coaching centers (sports physiotherapy) and allied facilities. Now besides private hospitals, government-run hospitals & institutions are employing all kinds of professionally trained manpower, of paramedical and allied health domains.

With several super specialty hospitals, corporate hospitals, decent healthcare centers & polyclinics coming up, more and more opportunities are becoming available to paramedical and allied health sciences trained professionals.

The general public has also become more aware of the importance of therapists role and thus private consulting practice, pathology labs, artificial limbs supply & fitness, optometry etc. all offer bright opportunities for private business. Physiotherapists even make home visits. These careers offer the opportunity of combining medical technology and equipment, and interpersonal and human relations skills to help people lead more productive & fulfilling lives; while earning a decent living.

A post graduate level degree enhances employment opportunities to include specialized practice, teaching and research, earning initial salaries of Rs. 3 l.p.a. or above.

As Diploma technicians Rs. 1.2 l. p.a. to Rs. 2.2 l.p.a. is the range initially and with growing experience & skill 4 to 5 times the above emoluments can be earned.

Recent surveys show large gaps between demand & supply; the gap being the largest in case of nursing as there is huge overseas demand from US & European Union countries for Indian nurses, who are committed, and caring in their approach, with a human touch
