Thanks to the development in audio and video communication systems and increasing demand for electrical energy and automation in industry, Electrical Engineers today, are much sought after. The role of an electrical engineer comprises the design and development of more efficient electrical machinery, power systems, and control equipment for the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy and telecommunication.

The Department also managed Communication and Computer Science branches until 1988. Increase in bodies of knowledge in each discipline necessitated the division of departments. The degree course was renamed as Electrical and Electronics Engineering by the University with the introduction of more Electronics subjects in the new syllabus. The Department has acquired sophisticated equipment for Power Electronics and High Voltage engineering Laboratories with of AICTE Grants.

While assigning projects and electives, care is taken to train for a wide area employment potential. Former students have got placements in Computer and Electronics industries of repute. The Department is involved in research activity also and has guided M.Tech students from outside Universities too. Research papers have been presented/published in National/ International Seminars and Journals. The department has extensive testing facilities for local Industries. The Visveswaraiah Technological University has introduced advanced topics on Internet, Neural Networks and PSPICE and the Department has equipped itself for the same.
