It is offering Masters in Arts, degree to students. As per the norms of the U.G.C. under 12 f, there are seven sanctioned posts in the department consisting one Professor, two Readers and four lecturers. In addition, one photographer, one cartographer and one archaelogical expert are also working to take care of archaelogical programmes. One Post Doctoral Fellow has also been there in the deptt. There are 15 students enrolled for M.A., 10 in M.Phil programems of study and 22 registered scholars. The department has produced 28 Ph.D.’s.
Faculty members have achieved recognition in India and abroad due to substaintial contribution to knowledge. They have published more than 250 research papers, five proceedings of conferences organized by the department, 15 research monographs, one photo album concerning history of Bareilly and two soveniers. A museum catalogue published by the department contains articles on the history and culture of the region. It also publishes a journal viz. “Yavanika” well acclaimed and recognized in the field of Graeco-Roma history. The faculty members have been awarded various international fellowship.
A significant achievement has been establishment of Panchal Museum containing a member of antiquities. There are 130 sites discovered by the department. The department has collaboration with Greek institution thereby faculty members and students regularly visit Greece. Another district feature of the department has been memorial and endowment lecture. Besides, refresher courses sponsored by the U.G.C. have been organized every eyar since 1995-96.
Prof. U.P. Arora was conferred upon the highest award of Greece namely. The Golden Cross-Order of Merit by the President of Greek for his outstanding contribution and spreading Greek studies in India. Onassis fellowship has also been awarded to him. Another faculty members has been elected as fellow of Royal Numismatic Society of British Meusum, London.
The future plan of the department includes diversification in teaching programmes and extension of archaeological excavations in Panchal region
