M.A. Music (Vocal)

The Guru Nanak Dev University's Faculty of Visual Arts and Performing Arts offers M.A. Music (Vocal) to its students. The course structure for it is as follows:

Paper I Theoretical Survey & Aesthetic study of Indian Music
Paper II History of Indian Music
Paper III Stage Performance
Paper IV Practical Test (Viva Voce)

Classical Music is based on folk Music
Importance of swarit (key note) in Music. New Dimensions of Music used in therapy & mental health.
Interaction between vocal & instrumental music in different Gharanas.
Basic principles of fusion & its importance in modern period.
Detailed knowledge of staff notation & its relevance in Indian Music.
Notation of prescribed Raga (of candidate own choice) in staff notation system.
