M.Pharm:Pharmaceutical Chemistry
The department of pharmaceutical chemistry emphasizes training in the basic science subjects. Students learn to apply fundamental concepts in these areas to many specialized areas of research. The core areas of the department are Medicinal Chemistry, drug development and analysis of pharmaceuticals including finished products.
Courses
ThisThe Department of Pharmaceutical chemistry provides following courses at different levels of B.Pharmacy as,
* Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry (1st year B Pharm)
* Biochemistry (1st year B. Pharm.)
* Organic chemistry (1st and 2nd B. Pharm.)
* Techniques in Pharmaceutical Analysis (2nd, 3rd & 4th B Pharm)
* Medicinal Chemistry (3rd & 4th B Pharm) and
* Total Quality Management (4th B Pharm)
Objective of the courses
The objective of courses is to cope with the fundamental principles and knowledge of chemicals as pharmaceuticals including their design, synthesis and analysis.
Facility
Department has well equipped laboratories with computer facility, audio-visual aids and internet facility. The department currently occupies approximately 430 sq M. of space. An undergraduate study requires up-to-date equipment and facilities; the department is well equipped for these needs. Networked computer with access to scientific databases, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, refractometer, polarimeter, flame-photometer, photofluorimeter, pH meter, conductivity meter, high precision single pan balance, digital top loading balances, hot air ovens, fume hood, refrigerators, centrifuges, hot plates are among the many resources available.
Library assignments
Department assigns different topics to final year B. Pharm. students which is aimed for organized enquiry, essentially an investigation designed and carried out to provide information for solving a problem or gaining knowledge. It also includes discovering newer information or relationship and to expand and to verify existing knowledge. Every year 8-10 students are allotted to department.The department focuses LA in the area of
1. Computer aided drug design (CADD)I.
2. Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR)II.
3. Analysis of water, chemicals as pharmaceuticals including development of analytical procedures.
The labs are equipped with all machineries required for pharmacy operations. The major facility includes tablet punching (single head), dry and wet granulator, ball mill, multimill, mass mixer, homogenizer, ointment filling and sealing. Capsule filling, triple roller mill etc.
Research
Department faculty is involved in research as a part of their doctoral study. Presently research is focused on design, and synthesis of heterocyclic compounds for antimicrobials, COMT inhibition activities
Consultancy
Department is offering consultancy and analytical services to PG and doctoral candidates from the region. We are always ready to fulfill regional demands. Queries from the local authorities like Municipal Corporation, Zillah Parishad, and NGOs are welcome. The department is eager to have collaborative activities with local authorities.
