M.Pharm:Pharmocognosy
The "Pharmacognosy" derives from two Greek words "Pharmakon" or drug and "gnosis" or knowledge. Like many contemporary fields of science Pharmacognosy has undergone significant changes in recent years and today represents a highly interdisciplinary science which is one of four major areas of Pharmaceutical education
Department of Pharmacognosy is responsible for providing knowledge on topics such as identification of pharmaceutical raw materials from natural sources, folkloric uses and chemical analysis of plants, etc. The principal education philosophy of the department has been to provide a sound professional training which has been consistent with the current scientific and technological state of the art background supported by practice through laboratory applications in Pharmacognosy J In the direction of educational aim of Nanded Pharmacy College, department of Pharmacognosy is to provide graduate students the opportunities to achieve master, doctorate degree along with services in the field of marketing and production after minimal study periods respectively.
During their studies / services, students have to perform theoretical and experimental studies on the basis of scientific principals. It is established in functions in total compliance with the regulatory requirements of the PCI and the AICTE. Department boasts of a herbal museum and a medicinal plant garden which houses more than 50 plants
HOD'S Massage
The term Pharmacognosy as a constituent scientific specialization of pharmacy has been in use for nearly 200 years, and if refers to studies on natural product drugs. During the latter half of the 20th century Pharmacognosy evolved from being a descriptive botanical subject to one with more chemical and biological focus. At the beginning of the 21st century, teaching of this subject in academic institutions has gained new relevance, as a result of the explosive growth in the use of herbal remedies in modern pharmacy practice.
In turn Pharmacognosy research areas are continually expanding and today include aspects of cell and molecular biology in relation to natural products, ethnobotany and phytotherapy, in addition to the more traditional analytical method development and phytochemistry. Since the past two centuries the identification, isolation and characterization of naturally occurring substances across the world have been accomplished by the concerted efforts through a central preoccupation of innumerable research chemists and biological scientists^ In the recent past, the world has witnessed an overwhelming progress towards intensification of interest more so in natural products from the herbal-based pharmaceutical industries with the epoch-making discoveries of extremely useful new drugs from the nature's natural reserves.
