The Course is offered by Department of Botany

The University Botany Laboratory was established in 1930. In 1933 Prof. M.O.P. Iyengar took over, as the first permanent Director and established a school of algology. He initiated broad based studies of fresh water, estuarine and marine algae, their systematics, life-histories, morphology and cytology. Much of this work was pioneering so far as India is concerned.

The Centre offers one year M.Phil degree course in Botany from September to August every year. The Degree course comprises two components: 6 months course work and 6 months research project work. The award of the degree is based on the performance of the candidate in the course work as well as dissertation. Admission of students to this programme is based on the performance in the entrance examination in addition to the marks scored in Master's degree.
