Course programme

The Department is one of the 4 Departments that formed the nucleus of the University when formed in 1985 by carving out 4 PG Departments from the erstwhile Alagappa Arts College. The Department soon started offering M.Phil (Regular, Part-time and Summer- Sequential) and Ph.D in Commerce, besides the M.Com program.
In 1996 the Department started Master of International Business Administration (MIBA) to coincide the Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization (LPG) drives on the Economic Policy front. The program was a great success. Hence Ph.D and M.Phil programs also started. In 2005-06, the Master of International Business Administration program was modified into MBA (International Business and E-Commerce).
True to the Motto of the University, 'Excellence in Action', the 'Department of International Business and Commerce' has been making good strides in teaching, research, extension and societal contributions. There are award winning teachers and awesomely achieving students. All the International Business students get placed in executive positions with global business concerns and the Commerce students mostly enter own-business or teaching arena.
6 Programs of Study and Research: The Department is offering SIX Programs with quality commitment. M.Com, MBA (IB&EC), M.Phil (Commerce), M.Phil (International Business), Ph.D (Commerce) and Ph.D (International Business) are the 6 programs offered. Be it curriculum or evaluation standard or paper publication, the faculties have been seeking to set standards. The Department is a dynamic floater of new programs.
Responsibilities Seekers: The bee-like faculty members, don't shy away responsibilities. In addition to managing the Department, many hold add-ons. Dean of Student Affairs, Dean (Research) Special Officer (Planning & Development), NSS Coordinator, NSS Program Officer, Adviser (Overseas Students Cell), Coordinator of Blue Ribbon Club, Coordinator of International Youth Red Cross Society, Syndicate Member, Finance Committee Member, Deputy Hostel Warden, etc are additional responsibilities shouldered happily by certain faculty members of the Department.
