M.Phil in History

The Department offers M.Phil. Programme in Indian History, including Regional History. Admission to M.Phil, is through an Entrance Test, details of which would be notified separately. The M.Phil, programme is strictly of 2 semesters duration and aims at preparing the students in the methodology of historical research during the first semester. The courses offered relate to theory of History. Methods and Techniques of research and presentation. Trends in Modern Historical Writing, handling of primary sources and analysis of secondary works.

All researchers are required to go through the course work. After they qualify, in course work they may have the option of completing M.Phil. dissertation or going directly for Ph.D. Their enrolment for M.Phil./Ph.D. would be counted from the date of joining the first semester for M.Phil. programme. Those going directly for Ph.D., could spend next six months working on their synopsis for registration. This programme,would limit the period for M.Phil, to one year and period for Ph.D. to three years since the date of enrolment.

Regular attendance and library work are essential part of the above programme during the first semester.
