Russian is one of the most important languages of the Slav family of languages. It is one of the six working languages of the UNO and its organizations. It is perhaps the second biggest languages after English in terms of research and other academic sources that are produced in any language of the world. In India, the Russian language and literature is one of the subjects for the competitive examinations like IAS and IPS etc. Students with graduation in any subject and Advanced Diploma/Intensive Advanced Diploma in Russian are eligible for admission to 2-year M.A. course in Russian at our Department. Prospects For The Students Studying Russian: Russian language has become a language of functional application in all the 15 countries that comprised the former USSR and now part of the CIS. Russian is extensively used in the field of trade, scientific research and higher studies and international relations. In India new areas of work for Russian knowing students are emerging every day. The students can get admission to M.A. (Russian) course of the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies with B.A./B.Sc. in any subject. Advanced Diploma (3-years part-time) course in Russian can be done simultaneously with the B.A. course at a college. Hence, doing Certificate (1st year), Diploma (2nd year) and Advanced Diploma (3 rd year) course opens a new avenue through M.A. in Russian which could provide excellent career opportunities for the students. The research scholars can make use of these valuable materials in case they know Russian. Russian literature is one of the richest literatures of the world. Works of writers and poets like A. Pushkin, Y. Lermontov, Nikolai Gogol, F. Dostoevsky, Ivan Turgenev, Leo Tolstoy, A. Chekhov, M. Gorky, V. Mayakovsky, M. Sholokhov etc. have gone down as masterpieces among the classics of the world literature. Reading and appreciating them in Russian is a scintillating experience.
