Course programme
The academic programmes in the course of Vyakarana combine the traditional and modern methods. Along with rigorous teaching of the Sanskrit texts and commentaries, comparative and interdisciplinary studies are engaged. The discovery by computer scientists that Sanskrit is the most suited natural language for computer and that the Paninian approach to syntax is very useful in knowledge representation has given a fillip to learning of Sanskrit Grammar in many Universities. Catching up with this trend, the Department revised its curriculum. National Seminars have already been organized with topics like Sanskrit and Computer, Sanskrit Grammar and Knowledge Representation, Sanskrit Grammar and Language Studies etc. There is provision for optional studies of Prakrit languages, Translation Techniques, Communicative Sanskrit, Media Linguistics, Intellectual Property Rights etc. The Department proposes short-term courses in Sanskrit linguistics for interested foreign students. Already there have been consultations with experts from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (Deemed University), Tirupati, and other organizations for collaboration in developing software and a new computer language for machine translation.
