About this course

Minimum Qualifications for admission to M.Sc first year in Nuclear Medicine will be B.Sc. from a recognized university with Physics and Chemistry or Chemistry & Biology as core subjects. Candidates having B.Sc. in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology Pharmacy and Nuclear Medicine shall also be eligible for admission to the course.

Course programme

The Department of Biophysics aims to impart quality education in Biophysics to the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level students as well as carrying out research both at the doctoral and postdoctoral level. Apart from the traditional areas in Biophysics such as Cell and Molecular Biophysics, Radiation Biophysics, Membrane Biophysics, NeuroBiophysics, Cancer Biophysics and Biomedical Physics, the Department had put in efforts in recent times to move into new emerging areas such as Bioinformatics, Molecular Imaging , translational research in Cancer, Molecular Medicine and Nuclear Medicine.

Moreover, the department has started new M.Sc courses in Nuclear Medicine and Medical Physics jointly with department of Physics, Panjab university, Departments of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh from the academic session, 2007-08. (Duly approved by Department of Atomic Energy , Govt. of India.).

Another M.Sc course initiated by department on Systems biology and Bioinformatics, started in 2007-2008 is equally sought after.

The department has been given special assistance under UGC-SAP program and FIST grant under DST program.

The alumni of the Department have got suitable placements in Medical institutes, Sports institutes and National laboratories in India as well as in Research and Development laboratories in famous pharmaceutical companies. In the last ten years, around fifty alumni have been awarded doctoral as well as post doctoral fellowship in USA and Europe and even some have been able to secure faculty positions. Moreover, during the last few years, students are being offered positions in international laboratories even after B.Sc. /M.Sc. Ist year and getting fellowships for Ph.D program, after clearing GRE.
