Course programme
The Physics course was opened in 1960 and now has emerged as an active centre of quality teaching and research. The Department runs two postgraduate programs M.Sc. (Physics) and M. Tech. (Solid State Electronic Materials) apart from catering the teaching of core Physics courses to undergraduate engineering students. The department has been well recognized for the fundamental research in the areas of Atomic and Molecular Collision Physics, Atmospheric Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear and Particle Physics. In recent years, the department has added the activities on Theoretical High Energy Physics to ongoing fundamental research, and has started new activities in the thrust areas of Applied Physics, which include Nanotechnology, Smart Materials, Fiber Optics and Photonics.
