Course programme

M.Sc. Physics:High Energy Physics

Department of Physics is the largest and one of the prestigious departments of the University of Jammu. It offers two Post-graduate courses at the Master's Degree level, one in Physics & other in Electronics. Besides it runs M.Phil and Ph. D. programmes at the research level. The admission in all courses of study is done strictly on the basis of merit. The department has a long tradition of world class research in the field of High energy Physics , X-ray Crystallography, Crystal Growth and materials Research, Nuclear Theory, Electronics and Spectroscopy. The Department is also involved in international Collaborative experiments and is liberally funded by the national funding agencies

The High Energy Physics group has been working in the field of Ultra relativistic Heavy ion Collisions using Nuclear Emulsions, Bubble Chambers and Electronic detectors. The main emphasis of the group has been to study the properties of nuclear matter under conditions of intense high temperature and density, the state known as "Quark Gluon Plasma", in which nuclear matter exists in a deconfined state. Presently the group is working on ALICE and STAR projects at CERN, Geneva and BNL, USA, respectively. These experiments have participation of nearly 80 institutions in 26 countries and about 45 institutions in 9 countries, respectively
