M.Sc. Polymer Chemistry

This Course is offered by the Department of Polymer Science.

The Department of Polymer Science was established in 1983, upon bifurcation of the Department of Physical Chemistry into the Department of Physical Chemistry and the Department of Polymer Science, under the UGC Special Assistance Programme with five faculty members. The objectives of the department are: 1) To organize and conduct course in Polymer Science at post-graduate level to train manpower for the polymer industries. 2) To carry out basic and applied research in the area of all kinds of polymers. 3) To associate itself with institutions and industries in a manner to make horizontal transfer of technology possible and meaningful. 4) Rendering of consultancy services to the industries on the manufacturing and testing of various polymeric products.

Electives offered in Applied Polymer Science

1. The chemistry and physical properties of structural adhesives, pressure-sensitive adhesives rubber based and contact bond (film) adhesives and hot-melt adhesives

2. Solvent-based coatings - high solid coatings - powder coatings

3. Composites - role of fibre and matrix - constituent and composite properties - fabrication.
