The Department of Social Work started in October 1989 offers Medical and Psychiatry and Community Development Specialization. It has been focusing on "Towards Value and Human Rights Education" for the past 5 years.

From its inception, in the year 1989 the department always strove to keep itself relevant to the national scenario. Keeping in line with the changes taking place in social work education the department introduced the Human Rights perspective into its curriculum. From 2003, it has also introduced a credit based evaluation system.
