-THE OPPORTUNITY

As per the CII-Mckinsey Industry Analysis Report, Healthcare demand is expected to outstrip supply over the next decade. Almost 80,000 additional hospital beds will be required every year for the next three to four years to adequately meet growing healthcare demands. The government, traditionally the largest healthcare provider, is now under pressure to meet evolving and rising demands for healthcare services across the country. The healthcare industry's size is currently estimated at USD 20 billion and can increase to USD 60 billion by 2010. India is now looked upon as the leading country in the promotion of medical tourism, with an annual growth rate estimated at 30%. It has grown from 15% in 2000 to 30% in last five years. The Indian government's spend on the healthcare sector is expected to be around 8% of GDP.

-Scope of Hospital Management Programme

Health care is one of the fastest growing Industry in our country. In India only one hospital bed is available for population of 1400, whereas WHO stipulates 1 bed for 350 people. New hospital projects are coming across the country and several existing ones are expanding their services. Several corporate houses like Fortis, Wockhardt, Reliance are venturing into hospital industry. Complexities in the running of the Hospital management have made it one of the challenging and sought after course. Today hospital industry is considered as a sunrise industry. A graduate of hospital management has enormous job opportunities in India and abroad.

They can enter into hospital in various managerial positions. However, for students, the scope is not limited to hospitals. Most of the health-related segments including Medical tourism, health consultancy services, insurance agencies supporting health care and pharmaceuticals provide employment opportunities.
