MD in Medicine

The college offers number of courses, one of the course is MD in Medicine. The course is recognize by the Medical Council of India. This course is offer by the Department of Medicine. The duration of the course is 3 years and the mode of selection for this course is entrance tests conducted by All India and state level.
The department of medicine came to exist as an integrated department in 1948. Prof.T.N. Taneja headed the department assisted by one Asst.Professor, two Registrars and four House physician. In 1956 Tuberculosis hospital started functioning as a independent hospital under the department of Medicine. A change of guard occurred in 1960 when prof. M.N.Bhattacharyya took over the charge as the head of medicine. Soon after two unit of medicine was added unit -iii, and unit- iv.with 50 bed each. Prof. D.Sarmah and one of AMC earliest registrars of medicine Prof. A.M.Rahman took charge of the units which were earlier tuberculosis ward and infectious disease block 9 unit iii & iv respectively. The first batch of M.D passed out in 1963.
