MDS: Prosthodontics

The college offer number of courses, one of the course is MDS: Prosthodontics. This course is offer under the department of Prosthodontics.
Department of Prosthodontics educates the predoctoral students to be competent in treatment and management of patients who require comprehensive diagnosis, treatment plan and sequence of treatment in general Prosthodontics therapy commonly found in general dental practices. The postgraduate program includes extensive clinical and laboratory phases of Prosthodontics training in the areas of fixed and removable partial dentures, complete dentures, maxillofacial prosthetics and implant Prosthodontics.

Apart from educating the students, the department provides care for patients who require comprehensive and advanced phases of Prosthodontics treatment. We strive to achieve excellence in treating the patient as a whole by Prosthodontics means and also train the students to make them future leaders of Prosthodontics.

The Department is located in the left wing of the building on the first floor with both postgraduate and under graduate clinics, post graduate lab, technician lab, computer room, faculty and post graduate student's room, seminar room, polymer lab, gypsum lab, preclinical lab, C.C. lab and department stores. The department is well equipped with 53 dental chairs i.e. 21 dental chairs for under graduates, 9 dental chairs for interns, 23 chairs for post graduates and 6 dental chairs for implants and with all the laboratory equipments and materials including titanium casting machine.

The teaching programme for post graduates includes thorough understanding of the traditional Prosthodontics principles and concepts and techniques with new technology and research conducted at the Department of Prosthodontics, SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Dharwad. The program trains the students to successfully rehabilitate the patients dentition, part of tooth, teeth and craniofacial structures to restore back the patients confidence, function and health. The latest technological developments in jaw movement, occlusal programming are coupled with the finest laboratory technology and art to design patient care for esthetics, function comfort and considerations of quality of life that are related to dentistry. The postgraduate Prosthodontic programme is of three years in length and prepares students for a specialized clinical practice in the field of maxillofacial and oral rehabilitation, management of implant prosthodontic cases and participation in clinical discussion. The students will have active participation in National specialty conferences in the form of scientific papers presentation, conduct table clinics and presentations of the scientific posters. The post graduates are also trained to do a research work in form of dissertation as their part of partial fulfillment of post graduation degree.
