The first chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers,(the renowned body of energy professionals with 74 chapters over the globe including 43 in the US and 31 in other countries) in India was inaugurated on February 21, 2003 by H.E. Mr. George N Sibley, the American Consul General, Consulate General of USA in Kolkata at IISWBM. This would help the senior managers in energy intensive industries in the region to share with the US counterparts on state-of-the-art technology and practices in Energy Management. The AEE India Chapter at IISWBM is boast of securing the international award in each of the various categories in each of the last three years i.e. since the year of it’s inception in 2003. In 2005 the chapter was adjudged for best International Chapter in three categories viz. Community Service, Student Chapter and Overall performance. The contender where 31 countries including UK, and Georgia.
A Green House Gas Accounting Cell (GHGAC) was established at IISWBM on January 6, 2005 in partnership with Energy Wise India (EWI) – a project of USAID. The mission of the Cell is to establish a permanent entity that can encourage industrial energy efficiency and promote awareness and reduction of Green House Gas emission by providing sustainable services to the industry in the eastern region of India.
So far we have carried out more than 25 industrial energy conservation consultancy projects, about 200 projects by the students and a number of industry visits and reports. More than 200 energy management post-graduates have come out of the programme since 1993 and many are serving key positions in public and private sector companies, pursuing higher studies / research in home and other countries such as Japan, Thailand, UK, USA and Germany.
