Course programme
The course is designed for postgraduates who wish to pursue a career in the field of bioinformatics. This rapidly growing field, defined as the use of computational methods to assist biology research, is fast becoming the cornerstone for the collection and analysis of vast amounts of data that current research is producing. Among its many applications are drug design, data mining and macromolecule sequence analysis. The bioinformatics industry has great potential in terms of career opportunities and India is on the brink of a major bioinformatics revolution.
The first two semesters of the course cover topics required for a sound knowledge of both biology-related and IT subjects. These include molecular biology, sequence analysis, database analysis, programming skills and Linux.
Lateral entry to the second semester may be permitted, depending on qualification in the meeting of all specified conditions.
