The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2004 and is presently imparting education for the Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Biotechnology. 21stCentury is the era of biotechnology and bioengineering. Biotechnology in essence implies the use of biological organisms (microbial, animal or plant cells and enzymes), systems or processes to manufacturing and services industry to synthesize, breakdown or transform material for the production of the goods and services to the mankind. By virtue of it being multidisciplinary in nature, scope and opportunities of biotechnology are wide and varies in the areas of agriculture, industry, food and beverages, medical and health, environment and energy and is therefore believed to become a major force for human existence in the future.

The course curriculum at DCE is self-contained and comprehensive. Students are not only exposed to various applied life sciences and engineering subjects like Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering but also gain the most recent information in the fields of Bioprocess technology, Computational Biology, Genomics, Proteomics etc. They are also trained in various Allied Engineering subjects such as mechanical workshops, electronics and electrical engineering so as to further enhance their vision and widen their scope.
